UFC Fight Night 49 in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 23rd will be headlined by a lightweight encounter featuring Ben Henderson Vs Rafael dos Anjos.
Henderson was in good form earlier this month when he submitted Rustam Khabilov with a rear-naked choke, earning a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus into the bargain.
Together with a split decision win over Josh Thomson back in January that leaves the former champion firmly rooted to the No.1 contender spot in the lightweight division, but since he’s already lost twice to current champion Anthony Pettis (once in the WEC, once in the UFC), he’s going to have to go that extra mile or two to earn another title shot.
So, in steps dos Anjos who’s own title aspirations following a five fight winning streak last year were temporarily derailed when he lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov back in April, but he’s now back on track after TKO’ing Jason High in New Mexico a couple of weeks ago, leaving him ranked No.5 in the division.
A welterweight fight between Thiago Alves and Jordan Mein was also been announced for the UFC Fight Night 49 event which will see the UFC return to Tulsa for the first time in almost 20 years.
