Bellator 171 Results

Bellator 171 took place last night and we’ve got all the results for you below.

In the main event of the evening Chidi Njokuani completely dominated Melvin Guillard on is way to a unanimous decision victory (30-25, 30-24, 30-26).

This was a bizarre match-up before it even began, with the 5ft 9″ lightweight Guillard having agreed to fight the 6ft 3″ Njokuani at a 180lb catchweight – clearly not the best way to bounce back after an abysmal Bellator campaign that had seen him go without a win in four fights.

The first round of the bout was marred by an initial lack of activity and then a couple of stoppages due to illegal strikes.

Njokuani was in complete control of the second round as he took Guillard down and beat him up with ground and pound strikes, while he also hurt the former UFC fighter with a hard body kick when they were stood up in the final 20 seconds.

It was one-way traffic again in the third round as Njokuani brought Guillard back down and continued to maul his opponent.

Meanwhile,, in the co-main event of thte evening david Rickels battered Aaron Derrow from pillar to post before finally earned a TKO stoppage in the opening minute of the third round when he dropped his opponent with a strike and then hammered him with ground and pound elbows.
