Eddie Alvarez defeats Roger Huerta by TKO (doctor’s stoppage) at 5.00mins of Rd2
This was a superfight that lived up to the billing. Alvarez hurt Huerta early with leg kicks and the former UFC fighter was never the same afterwards, though he did drop Alvarez briefly in the first round. Aside from that though it was Alvarez as he laid down a beating, landing punches at will, more leg kicks and even landing some knees. Huerta’s undoubtedly a warrior and wouldn’t quit, but at the end of the second round the cageside doctor made the decision to call an end to the fight.
Ben Askren defeats Lyman Good by unanimous decision (49-46. 48-47, 50-45)
Once again a talented fighter could not find the answer to Ben Askren’s funky, relentless grappling which allowed him to ride out a five round shutout to claim the welterweight title. Good came close to pulling off the upset in the final round though, surprising Askren with an upkick that rocked him, and then slapped on a triangle choke, but the challenger escaped and made it to the end of the round.
Rick Hawn defeats LeVon Maynard by TKO at 4.53mins of Rd1
– After a quiet start Hawn came on strong in the closing stages of the first round, using his judo to throw Maynard violently to the mat and then unleashed a barrage of ground and pound to earn the victory.
