At today’s UFC Fight For The Troops conference call Dana White finally revealed that Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos will be the coaches on TUF season 13.
Lesnar’s name had been suggested by White before Christmas as being in the running for a coaching role, but few believed he would actually be able to convince the former champion to take the role which seemed to not sit comfortably with his intensely private nature outside of the cage.
Somehow the UFC president has managed to convince him to sign-up for it though, and getting the UFC”s biggest draw on a weekly show is a masterstroke, all but guaranteeing blockbuster ratings on Spike TV, followed by what will be a hugely anticipated fight.
Meanwhile Dos Santos was installed as the heavyweight divisions No.1 contender after a win over Roy Nelson last year and had been expected to face Cain Velasquez for the title next. Unfortunately an injury forced the champion out for an extended period and left the Brazilian in limbo.
The season begins filming in just over a weeks time. Originally the plan was for both welterweights and middleweights to compete on the show, but in a late change it turns out that only the 170lbs will participate this time around.
The live finale on Spike TV is set to air on June 4th.
