April isn’t the most stacked month from the major promotion’s, with the UFC in particular cutting down to just one show instead of three the previous month, but what it lacks in quantity it’s certainly makes up for in terms of quality.

Friday 1st April 2011: Strikeforce Challengers 15

April starts of with the 15th in Strikeforce’s Challengers series, but the line-up won’t be quite as originally planned due to former DREAM star Satoshi Ishii pulling out injured.

With his bout now scrapped, Justin Wilcox Vs Rodrigo Damm now fronts the Stockton show.

Saturday 2nd April 2011: Bellator 39

As always there’s Bellator action every Saturday in April, but April 2nd’s Bellator 39 card deserves a special mention for producing the best card so far this season.

On headline duties will be lightweight star and current Bellator 155lb champ Eddie Alvarez who faces 2010 tournament winner Pat Curran.

In addition to the first semi-finals of the lightweight and welterweight tournaments fans will also be treated to former UFC fighter Ben ‘Kill-B’ Saunders taking on Matt Lee.

Saturday 9th April – Strikeforce: Diaz Vs Daley

April 9th was originally earmarked for the second quarter-finals of the Strikeforce Heavyweight GP, but with that now delayed until June the promotion have still managed to produce a quality night of fights.

Leading the charge is an exciting showdown between dominant welterweight champion Nick Diaz and the hard-hitting contender Paul Daley.

Also be on the lookout for Gilbert Melendez latest title defense against old foe Tatsuya Kawajiri and a light-heavyweight No.1 contenders bout between Gegard Mousasi and Mike Pyle.

Friday 22nd April 2011: Shark Fights 15

There’s no fight card available yet for Shark Fight’s 15th event, but the promotion has proven to be one to watch in recent times, and in a relatively quiet couple of weeks in the middle of April this might just provide you your MMA fix until UFC 129 comes along the following weekend.

Saturday 30th April 2011: UFC 129: GSP Vs Shields

It’s a relatively quiet month for the UFC, but they prove the old adage that ‘all good things come to those who wait’ by delivering big for UFC 129, the promotion’s first visit to Toronto Canada.

This is set to be a historic night with both the UFC’s attendance and gate records set to be smashed as 55,000 fans pack into the Rogers Center.

Providing the entertainment will be Canadian superstar Georges St.Pierre in his latest welterweight title defense against former Strikeforce champ Jake Shields.

Not pulling any punches, the UFC have also lined up Jose Aldo, widely considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world in his first featherweight title defense against Mark Hominick, and thrown in Lyoto Machida Vs Randy Couture for good measure.
