A fresh new year is upon us and it looks set to be the busiest yet starting with a packed month of events coming primarily from the UFC as they hit the ground running with their new television deal on FOX.

Saturday, January 7th: Strikeforce: Rockhold Vs Jardine

The first big show of the year belongs to Strikeforce this Saturday night as part of a free-to-view weekend on Showtime.

Headlining the event is a middleweight title fight between current champion Luck Rockhold and former UFC veteran Keith Jardine who’ll be making his debut in the divison.  Amongst the other notable bouts on the card is Robbie Lawler Vs Adlan Amagov and ‘King Mo’ Lawal Vs Lorenz Larkin.

Saturday, January 14th: UFC 142: Aldo Vs Mendes

The UFC have wasted no time in getting back to Brazil in 2012, with UFC 142 arriving in Rio just two weeks into the new year.

Hometown hero Jose Aldo stars in the main event as he looks to defend his featherweight title against the unbeaten Chad ‘Money’ Mendes.  An intriguing middleweight contest which sees hard-hitting welterweight star Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson move up to face another Brazilian favorite Vitor Belfort is also slated for the show.

Friday, January 20th: UFC On FX 1: Guillard Vs Miller

The UFC’s first official event of their new FOX deal will take place on a Friday night on the FX channel with a lightweight fight between two of the division’s best, Melvin Guillard and Jim Miller.

Co-main event duties for this one goes to the heavyweights as the ever-popular Pat Barry looks to reverse a two-fight losing run against Christian Morecraft.

Saturday, January 21st: ProElite 3: Grove Vs Minowman

The most notable non-Zuffa action in January comes courtesy of the re-building ProElite franchise who’ll be hosting their third event from Hawaii.

So far the fight card has former Ultimate Fighter winner Kendall Grove taking on cult Japanese fighter Ikuhisa Minowa, along with the semi-finals of their heavyweight Grand-Prix.

Saturday, January 28th: UFC On FOX 2: Evans Vs Davis

January closes out in style with the UFC’s firsr big FOX event of 2012 which features a triple-bill of big fight action spread out over a two hour station on the network.

Fronting the event is a light-heavyweight No.1 contender fight between former champ Rashad Evans and the fast-rising Phil Davis.   There’s more action with title significance in the co-main event as Chael Sonnen looks to book a second shot at the belt against the heavy-handed Mark Munoz, while the UK’s Michael Bisping is also scheduled to fight Damien Maia.
