Major MMA Events In June 2012

A slight delay in getting this up means we’ve already missed the first big event of June – ‘The Ultimate Fighter: Live Final’ which took place on Friday night, but fear not as there’s still some more major shows up and coming in the rest of the month including a hectic spell of four events in three days!

Friday 8th June: UFC On FX 3: McCall Vs Johnson 2

This Friday night the UFC returns to FX for the first of two shows on the channel this month.

Fronting the show is a rematch of the ‘UFC on FX 2’ flyweight semi-final between Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson which ended in controversy when a judging error resulted in the fight not going to a fourth ‘sudden victory’ round as had been intended, so they have to fight all over again.

Amongst the other fights on show will be exciting young Brazilian Erick Silva Vs Charlie Brenneman and Eddie Wineland Vs Scott Jorgensen.

Thursday 21st June: M-1 Global: Fedor Vs Rizzo

If you want to see a bit of history being made then be sure to check out what’s being touted as Russian superstar Fedor Emelinaneko’s last fight before he hangs up his gloves.

For the occasion he’ll be fighting former UFC veteran Pedro Rizzo in St.Petersburg under the M-1 Global banner.

Friday 22nd June: UFC On FX 4: Maynard Vs Guida

A day later sees another ‘UFC On FX’ card, and this time it’s the lightweight’s in the spotlight as former No.1 contender Gray Maynard takes on Clay Guida in the main event.

Meanwhile, if Hatsu Hioki can get past Ricardo Lomas in the co-main event he could be in the running for a title shot at 145lbs, and another featherweight bout between Ross Pearson and Cub Swanson sounds like it’ll be contending for ‘Fight Of The Night’ status.

Friday 22nd June: Bellator 71

Also on this Friday night is the first of Bellator’s ‘Summer Season’ shows for 2012 which sees their light-heavyweight tournament get underway.

Fronting the show will be 205lb contenders Zelg Galesic Vs Attila Vegh, while MMA vet Travis Wiuff will also be vying for a place in the semi-finals against Chris Davis.

Saturday 23rd June: UFC 147: Silva Vs Franklin

The fourth big MMA show in three days finds the UFC in Brazil for UFC 147, a card that’s suffered more than a few changes due to injury and other issues.

The show must go on though and headline duties are now taken up by a rematch between Wanderlei Silva and Rich Franklin.  Franklin steps in at short notice for Vitor Belfort in a fight that will be fought at a catchweight of 190lbs.

The Co-main event slot goes to Fabricio Werdum Vs Mike Russow while much of the rest of the card will be filled up with participants from the recent Ultimate Fighter: Brazil show, including the final of that competition.
