August was an action packed month, but September begins with a little bit of a breather before the pace picks up again as we get closer to October.

2nd September: Bellator 27: Soto Vs Warren

Bellator’s multi-division tournaments will continue apace all month long, but perhaps the pick of their shows in September comes at the beginning of the month as Joe Soto puts his featherweight title on the line against last seasons tournament winner Joe Warren.

10th September: Shine Fights Lightweight Grand-Prix

Stepping in to fill a little bit of a lull as far as the major promotions go in the first half of September are Shine Fights who have put together a one-night lightweight grand-prix on pay-per-view.

Amongst the competitors scheduled to compete in the Friday night tournament are a number of familiar faces like Charles ‘Crazyhorse’ Bennett, Rich Crunkilton, Marcus Aurelio and Drew Fickett, making this an intriguing diversion for those looking to maintain their MMA fix.

In an interesting twist the promotion have asked fans to choose the quarter-final pairings.

11th September: Shark Fights 13:  Jardine Vs Prangley

A number of promotions have tried to step into the pay-per-view market in recent months, but Shark Fights have perhaps one of the best chances of actually making a decent stab at it.

They have a decent track record behind them of putting on fights, and they’ve brought an enticing card to the table headed up by a worth light-heavyweight fight featuring recently released UFC fighter Keith Jardine taking on Strikeforce veteran Trevor Prangley.

Backing them up is a number of name fighters with Sokoudjou Vs Houston Alexander, Paul Daley Vs Jorge Misvidal and Drew McFredries Vs Joey Villesenor.

It’s also just been announced that the full undercard will air on sherdog.com.

15th September: UFC Fight Night 22: Marquardt Vs Palhares

Originally set to feature Alan Belcher Vs Demian Maia in the headline slot, injuries have forced a switch around, and now Nate Marquardt looks to bounce back from a loss to Chael Sonnen when he steps into the octagon with submission specialist Rousimer Palhares.

The card, which will be live on Spike TV, also features a slew of lightweight fights like Efrain Escudero against Charles Oliveria, Jim Miller taking on Gleison Tibau, and Ross Pearson battling Cole Miller.

September 15th: The Ultimate Fighter Season 12 Premiere

Following directly after the UFN 22 event on Spike TV will be the premiere of The Ultimate Fighter Season 12 featuring Georges St.Pierre and Josh Koscheck as coaches to a new group of 28 lightweight fighters.

25th September: UFC 119: Cro Cop Vs Mir

You’ll have to wait a whole 10 days before the next major UFC event as UFC 119 rolls into Indianapolis with heavyweight stars Mirko Cro Cop and Frank Mir taking center-stage.

There’s a solid main card built around this fight including Antonio Rogerio Nogueira meeting TUF Season 9 winner Ryan Bader, and Matt Serra competing in a rematch of the TUF season 4 finale against Chris Lytle, plus the return of former lightweight champion Sean Sherk against the on-fire Evan Dunham.

September 25th: DREAM 16

After the conclusion of UFC 119 there’s only a few hours wait until DREAM 16 kicks off in Japan which hosts the final of their four-man light-heavyweight tournament which will be contested by Gegard Mousasi and Tatsuya Mizuno.

Elsewhere Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller gets back into the ring to fight Japanese legend Kazushi Sakuraba and Bellator’s Joe Warren returns to dream to face Michihiro Omigawa.

30th September: WEC 51: Aldo Vs Gamburyan

The final event of the month could well prove to be the best.  Topping the bill at the WEC 51 show on the 30th is future superstar Jose Aldo who will be defending his featherweight belt against former TUF finalist Manny Gamburyan.

In a particularly packed main card we’ll also see the long-awaited grudge rematch between Donald Cerrone and Jamie Varner, former dominant bantamweight champion Miguel Torres throw down with Charlie Valencia plus the return of WEC 48 heroes ‘The Korean Zombie’ and Leonard Garcia.
