Main Card:

Eduard Folayang defeats A Sol Kwon by unanimous decision

Great fight to end the show. This was a very close, technical stand-up battle, but for me Folayang was the rightful winner, continually pushing the pace, landing with far greater frequency than his opponent and occasionally utilizing some slick throws. Kwon was well in the fight though and his handiwork was displayed all over Folayang’s face, leaving him with a broken nose and a cut to the side of his right eye that streamed blood in the later rounds.

Yoshiyuki Yoshida defeats Phil Baroni by unanimous decision

Yoshida fought a smart fight here, pressing Baroni up against the cage and taking him down frequently throughout the fight, wearing him down. As has happened in the past Baroni tired quickly and when his chance came early in the second round to indulge in the striking game his arms were gassed and his punches came too slowly to make an impact. Yoshida quickly closed that brief window of opportunity by taking him back to the mat and so it continued for the rest of the fight with the Japanese fighter appearing happy to go to a decision.

Eric Kelly defeats Mitch Chilson by submission (rear-naked choke) at 3.10mins of Rd1

Eric Kelly pulls off an upset win over Singapore star Mitch Chilson. The end came when Kelly managed to seize Chilson’s back while pressed up against the cage, sunk in the rear-naked choke and asserted pressure sending his opponent to the canvas for the finish. Prior to that Kelly had been getting the better of it, landing a big head kick early and forcing a brief referee stoppage later after producing a cut above Chilson’s eye.

Gregor Gracie defeats Seok Mo Kim by unanimous decision

Slightly curious performance from Gracie here. in all fairness he was dominant for the majority of the 15 minutes, but given his ground skills it’s puzzling that he failed to put his opponent away. Several times during the fight he appeared to secure an arm triangle, but on each occasion Kim escaped. That’s a rare occurence and it’s a matter of debate whether Gracie’s insistance on applying the choke from an elevated angle rather than lying flat on the mat and blocking off Kim’s escape route was to blame. Still, there was no doubt about the winner after the final bell had sounded.

Zorobabel Moreira defeats Andy Wang by TKO 1.59mins of Rd2

– TUF fans will be pleased to know that true to tradition Andy Wang still likes to “stand and wang” rather than use his ground skills. Also true to his past exploits it didn’t really work out too well for him here. To be fair he got caught with a finger poke to the eye in round one which didn’t help his cause, but that aside Moreira’s reach was giving him significant problems on the feet. Making good use of the clinch early in the second round Moreira fired off repeated elbows to drop a dazed Wang to the ground and then finished up with some punishing knees on the ground until the ref finally stepped in.
