UFC 147: Predictions

Just 24 hours after tonight’s UFC On FX 4 fight card comes UFC 147 in Brazil and we’ve got our predictions for all the fights for you below.

Main Card:

Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva

The last fight between these two was very closely contested and I can see it going the same way this time around. I’m predicting the same outcome as well with Franklin again coming out on top as he uses better footwork and angles to avoid Silva’s onslaughts and land the cleaner shots. Despite his injury woes in recent years Franklin is always in great shape for his fights and I think that’ll also be in his favor as they head into the later rounds of this five round fight.

Rich Franklin to win by decision.

Mike Russow vs. Fabricio Werdum

The only other big name fight on the main card offers up two heavyweights looking to push into the title mix in the division. Russow’s quietly racked up a 4-0 record in the UFC, but I think that flatters him. He’s got a smothering top game and decent power which has got him past a few of the lower ranked contender’s, but I don’t see that being enough against Werdum who’s got a better and more varied striking arsenal and a very dangerous BJJ game which I think will be the deciding factor in this fight, sooner rather than later.

Fabricio Werdum to win by submission in Rd1.

Cezar Ferreira vs. Serginho Moraes

The first of two TUF final’s on the card, this one’s sees the last two middleweight’s fight to become ‘The Ultimate Fighter’. Moraes best route to victory here would be via a submission, but while Ferreira’s perhaps not on his level he too is also skilled on the mat and is a much more imposing threat in the stand-up department. If Ferreira keeps this fight on the feet for the most part, and I think he can, then I see him getting a finish inside the distance.

Cezar Ferreira to win by TKO in Rd2.

Rony Mariano Bezerra vs. Godofredo Pepey

The second TUF: Brazil final pits these two featherweights against each other to see who’ll be the last man standing. Both men prefer to finish fights with submission’s and are very effective in doing so. Bezerra seems more well-rounded though and generated more momentum during the TUF show so I favor him to come out on top.

Rony Mariano Bezerra to win by TKO in Rd2.

Hacran Dias vs. Yuri Alcantara

This is an intriguing match-up between two featherweights who are very experienced and have become accustomed to winning, fighting mainly in their native Brazil. Both men bring a submission threat to the table here, but Alcantara also has the striking prowess to go with it and with two UFC wins already under his belt I think that’s enough to give him in the edge against his debuting opponent in what may prove to be one of the best fights of the night.

Yuri Alcantara to win by TKO in Rd3.
