Fight Report

Rani Yahya defeats Mizuto Hirota by unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

For two rounds of this fight Yahya used his grappling superiority to dominate Hirota, but things got interesting in the final round as Yahya began to tire. Hirota almost made him pay for that when during a scramble he briefly cinched up a triangle choke, then an armbar, but Yahya was able to escape. In the closing minutes of the round Hirota gave Yahya a tough time in the stand-up department, but he seruvived to claim the decision win, slumping exhausted to the canvas at the bell.

Dong Hyun Kim defeats Siyar Bahadurzada by unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

Kim controlled this fight completely on the mat as he’s done so often in the past. For the most part he was content landing short shots and the occasional big elbow from top control, though he did try an arm triangle choke in the third round and then started exchanging words with his opponent before raining down heavier blows and showboating for the crowd until the final bell.

Prelims:

Brad Tavares defeats Riki Fukuda by unanimous decision (29-28 x2, 30-27)

This fight was fought almost entirely on the feet with neither men leveraging the kind of power required to stop the other. A large quantity of kicks and punches were thrown over the course of 15 minute though and it was Tavares who got the better of it, landing with more frequency and better technique en-route to the decision win.

Takeya Mizugaki defeats Bryan Caraway by split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29)

This was a closely contested fight in which both fighters had their moments. The first round could have gone either way but Caraway got the better of the second round after flooring Mizugaki and then threatening with a couple of different choke attempts, though he couldn’t force his opponent to tap. In round three Mizugaki returned the favor by dropping Carway on the feet, though he was able to get back upright. Caraway was starting to tire though and Mizugaki continued to have the edge in the stand-up until the final bell.

Kazuki Tokudome defeats Cristiano Marcello by unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

After a shaky start in which he was rocked by punches from Macello, Tokudome was able to control large portions of this fight with his wrestling on the mat, and dropped the Brazilian with a hook early in the third round for good measure.

Alex ‘Bruce Leeroy’ Caceres defeats Kyung Ho Kang by split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29)

This proved to be a very technical ground battle with Kang having the stronger wrestling, while Caceres did a very good job of utilizing escapes and sweeps from his back. The first two rounds were back and forth with Kang just getting the better of it for my money, but in the third Caceres started to take over and had several dominant spells on top laying down ground and pound. Two of the judges thought Caceres won one of the earlier rounds as well though, so he gets the split decision win.

Hyun Gyu Lim defeats Marcelo Guimaraes by KO at 4.00mins of Rd2

Great finish from Lim here, noting Guimaraes tendancy to lean downwards when striking and capitalizing it by landing a perfectly timed left knee to the jaw that floored him before putting the icing on the cake with a hard right hand on the deck.
