UFC On FX 3: Predictions

Tomorrow night the UFC returns to FX for the third in there series of live events for the network and we’ve got our predictions for all the fights for you below.

Main Card:

Demetrious Johnson vs. Ian McCall

The first fight between these flyweight semi-finalists was extremely close and so you could convincingly make an argument for either to win this rematch. McCall looked to have a little more in his locker for me though and shifted into an extra gear in the final round which left me feeling he’d actually won that bout.

And let’s not forget that was also his debut in the UFC so I think now that he’s settled in he should be even better this time round and will get the finish he narrowly missed out on last time late in the second round.

Ian McCall to win by TKO in Rd2.

Charlie Brenneman vs. Erick Silva

This is a stern test for Silva who’s so far looked to be one of the more promising up and coming talents currently making moves in the UFC. Brenneman’s by the far the better wrestler here so getting stuck underneath him for 15 minutes will be a big concern for Silva.

He’s a dynamic fighter though with better striking and submissions than his opponent, and while this has the makings of a fight that could derail his hype train I’m going to gamble on him being able to keep enough of Brenneman’s takedowns at bay to give him time to light him up on the feet.

Erick Silva to win by TKO in Rd2.

Josh Neer vs. Mike Pyle

This should be a fun fight between two hard-nosed veterans of the sport who are quite similar fighters in a number of ways, including each having the ability to finish by either strikes or submission.

For me Pyle has the edge in terms of being a well-rounded fighter and if the fight goes to the floor it should be him on top. On the feet he has to be careful though as Neer is extremely durable and loves to get into a stand-up war. Pyle can take care of himself in the feet though and if he mixes things up on the feet and the mat and doesn’t get dragged into a slug-fest I see him having his hand raised at the end of a hard fought fifteen minutes of action.

Mike Pyle to win by decision.

Scott Jorgensen vs. Eddie Wineland

The opening card on the main card sees another competitive fight featuring two worthy challengers in the bantamweight division.

Wineland is the better, more technical striker of the two, but Jorgensen is tough as nails and has the kind of wrestling that I think will cause problems for him and lead to his third loss in a row.

Scott Jorgensen to win by decision.
