Earlier today we brought you the news that Nate Marquardt was to replace Vitor Belfort against Yushin Okami at UFC 122, though at the time the exact reason for the switch was unclear.

Initial reports suggested an injury may have brought about the move, but the plot now thickens with Dana White confirming on twitter that Belfort is, “not injured.”

Meanwhile Belfort’s coach Shawn Tompkins also backed up that statement on Facebook while implying that something else is happening behind the scenes.

“Great episode of Sons of Anarchy tonight!!!! and yes you will recieve Vitor Belfort news very soon…. All I can tell you as his coach is that he is 100% healthy.. Big day tomorrow at the gym, Hominick and Horodecki are looking great..”

Though there’s no officials confirmation yet it now seems highly likely that the UFC are ready to take control of the reigns again and install Vitor Belfort as Anderson Silva’s next title challenger.

The fight makes sense – Belfort was originally scheduled to fight Silva back at UFC 112 ahead of Sonnen before suffering an injury, and since recovering he has been campaigning hard for a chance to fight his fellow Brazilian, claiming just last week that Silva would not be able to stand with his power.

The only flaw in the plan is that Belfort has now been out of action since September of last year when he KO’d Rich Franklin.  Ideally it would have been better to get a fight under his belt first, but under the circumstances it still seems like a good course of action.

Dana White has now confirmed on twitter that Vitor Belfort will face Anderson Silva.

“Vitor is not injured. He is going to fight anderson for the title and the winner of marquart and okami are next.” – Dana White

MMAJunkie also suggest that the fight could make it’s was onto the January 1st UFC 125 event.
