Forrest Griffin’s unanimous decision victory last night over Rich Franklin allows him to add another big name opponent to his win column alongside other notable victories against the likes of Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and Tito Ortiz.

So what’s a suitable next fight for the former light-heavyweight champion as he looks to make another run at the belt?

If things had gone according to plan last night then it would have made perfect sense to line Griffin up with the winner of the other high-profile 205lb bout on the card, Jon Jones.

However Jones has now been thrown into an immediate title shot with ‘Shogun’ Rua due to unforeseen circumstances, leaving Griffin to look elsewhere for a suitable opponent.

Most of the other top contenders in the light-heavyweight division are already scheduled to fight at this moment in time, so it looks like he’ll have to wait a while before learning who he’s going to face next.

With that in mind, the winner of Tito Ortiz Vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in the main event of UFC Fight Night 24 on March 26th would be the quickest option. I don’t think people are in a particular hurry to see Griffin Vs Ortiz 3 though, but Griffin Vs Lil Nog would definitely be a good match-up, and in fact it was in the works last year before he picked up an injury.

If Lyoto Machida defeats Randy Couture at UFC 129 on April 30th then he would also be a good match-up for him. On the other hand, If Couture was to win it’s unlikely he would fight Griffin since they are training partners.

Finally, with Rashad Evans only scheduled to be out for 6-8 weeks due his knee injury then he could also be in the running to fight Griffin, and it certainly would be interesting to see the winners of the first two seasons of TUF going head-to-head again.
