In the second part of our latest ‘Where Are They Now?’ feature we continue to look back at some of the notable fighters who were cut from the UFC in 2010 and find out what they’ve been up to since.
Note: If you haven’t already seen it then be sure to also check out PART ONE.
One of the highest profile cuts in 2010, Gabriel Gonzaga had called the UFC home for five years. After a shaky start against Kevin Jordan, which proved to be one of the worst fights ever seen in the octagon, Gonzaga went on to produce some memorable wins, most notably his head-kick KO of Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 70, which was followed up by an unsuccessful title fight with Randy Couture.
Gonzaga’s form dipped after that and never really recovered, going 3-5 between 2008 and 2010 before finally being released after a lackluster loss to TUF 10 finalist Brendan Schaub in October.
After his release Gonzaga stated that he now intended to focus on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition and implied that he was no longer interested in fighting in MMA. Having said the he did appear to leave the door open to return if the price was right. The 31 year-old is currently an instructor at the Link BJJ gym in Massachusettes.
