Update: Watch videos of all the fights from DREAM 13 here.

We’re about to enter one of the busiest sequences of major MMA events in recent memory with five scheduled  in a ten day period, and nestled amongst them is DREAM 13, the Japanese promotions first event of the year.

Set for Monday 22nd March, DREAM 13 is headlined by the featherweight title fight between current champ Bibiano Fernandes and Joachim Hansen who drops to 145lbs for the contest.

Fernandes fought his way through the featherweight grand-prix last year to earn the belt, while Hansen lost out in the final of the lightweight grand-prix to Shinya Aoki.

Also fighting at the event will be the controversial heavyweight Josh Barnett who has not competed since failing a drug test in July of ’09 which caused an eagerly awaited fight with Fedor Emelianenko to be canceled.

Now he faces a significant step-down in competition as he takes on 39 year old kickboxer Mighty Mo (3-1) who hasn’t fought in a mixed martial arts contest since a loss to Semmy Schilt in December of 2008.

Meanwhile, after losing a hard-fought battle with Eddie Alvarez at DREAM 12, DEEP lightweight champion Katsunori Kikuno is back in action against Cage Force champ Kuniyoshi Hironaka who was victorious in his bout at DREAM 12.

Cole Escovedo, who was at one time partially paralyzed by a severe staph infection will be looking to claim his fifth straight victory since returning to fighting when he takes on the experienced Yoshihiro Maeda who defeated Chase Beebe in his last outing.

Also scheduled to fight is Former PRIDE and UFC fighter Ryo Chonan who makes his DREAM debut against the far less experienced former Andrews Nakahara, a former Karate champion.

Another fighter making his debut is KJ Noons, the former Elite XC lightweight champion who recently signed with Strikeforce, but has been loaned out to DREAM for this fight against Andre Amado who has yet to pick up a win in his two previous outings for the promotion.

Finally Minowaman, fresh from being crowned DREAM’s Superhulk tournament, takes on another lumbering heavyweight, Jimmy Ambriz, who’s only previous fight in the promotion was a loss to Sergei Kharitonov at DREAM 6.

Don’t be surprised if the promotion adds further bouts to the card in the coming days.
