Next Saturday – June 26th to be exact, Strikeforce will finally get Fedor Emelianenko and Fabricio Werdum into the cage together, two months after they were originally expected to.

The only difference will be that instead of the pound-for-pound great headlining a card watched by millions on CBS, he’ll instead have to make do with what will more than likely be hundreds of thousands on Showtime.

There’s a lot riding on this fight, with a win for Fedor set to pave the way for a long awaited clash with current Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem which could become the promotion’s first outing on pay-per-view.

Fabricio Werdum will be looking to spoil those plans though, and with previous wins over both Overeem and Fedor’s brother Aleksander, and a successful Strikeforce debut against Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva under his belt the jiu-jitsu specialist has the potential to cause an upset here.

Strikeforce will lay claim to having both the pound-for-pound best male and female fighters in the sport competing at their event on Saturday as Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos will be back in action against Jan Finney.

Cyborg has apparently appointed herself as a one woman wrecking crew and is currently nine fights unbeaten and looked in complete control in here last two title fights against Gina Carano and Marloes Coenen.

Finney is on a four fight win streak of our own, but despite that her overall record is just 8-7, and having lost to talented fighters like Erin Toughill and Meisha Tate in the past it would be a major upset if she emerged victorious against the Brazilian.

Elsewhere on the card former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le and Scott Smith will once again do battle just six months after their last encounter.

On that occasion Le kicked Smith up and down the cage for much of the contest until out of the blue Smith suddenly landed some heavy blows that turned the fight in his favor and finished Le for the first time in his career.

The main card of the event will feature a lightweight bout between former champion Josh Thomson and the experienced Pat Healy who holds prior wins over current UFC fighters Carlos Condit and Mike Guymon, and was victorious in his Strikeforce Challengers debut just one month ago.
