Strikeforce: Houston has now been officially announced and is set to take place on August 21’st at the Toyota Center in Houston with two title fights on the line.

The headline bout sees light-heavyweight champion Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal defend his title for the first time against Rafael ‘Feijao’ Cavalcante.

Lawal claimed the belt back in April, handing Gegard Mousasi his first loss in sixteen fights for good measure.  Feijao was not the first choice for King Mo, Renato Sobral was, but nonetheless he brings a two fight win-streak into this bout, most recently earning a KO victory over Antwain Britt in May.

The vacant middleweight title is also up for grabs at the Houston show with Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza and Tim Kennedy chosen to dual for the belt.

Ground wizard Jacare has already laid down two impressive wins since joining Strikeforce, and certainly looks the part as a future champion.  Meanwhile Kennedy has worked his way through the Strikeforce: Challengers series to earn his shot at the title, and looked impressive in his past three victories for the promotion.

Fresh off a win last month KJ Noons steps back into the cage against former UFC fighter Jorge Gurgel in a lightweight scrap.

Noons, the former Elite XC lightweight champion has spent much of the last two years on the sidelines as far as MMA goes, but two recent victories in DREAM and Strikeforce have put him back in the mix.  Talented BJJ specialist Gurgel has paid the price for his tendency to want to stand and bang with his opponents in recent years, with just one win in his last four fights.

Though his opponent has not been named yet, Strikeforce: Houston will also play host to former pro-wrestling star Bobby Lashley’s next fight, rounding off a stacked card for the promotion in what looks like being a very busy month of MMA action.
