January has barely begun and the first big MMA event of 2012 is already looming large in the distance. Strikeforce: Rockhold Vs Jardine takes place on Saturday the 7th and airs live on Showtime.
Headlining the event is a slightly curious middleweight title fight pairing featuring current champion Luke Rockhold against former UFC fighter Keith Jardine.
Rockhold is currently on a seven fight winning streak and defeated Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza to claim the title lasta year, while Jardine’s own form has been much more patchy, winning just two of his last eight fights. He’s hoping to make a fresh start by moving down to 185lbs for the first time however and immediately finds himself fighting for the title.
Former 185lb title contender Robbie Lawler also features on the card and he’ll take on Strikeforce Challengers product Adlan Amagov who’s unbeaten in 10 fights.
Meanwhile, former light-heavyweight champion Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal looks to take another step towards another title shot when he takes on the up and coming Lorenz Larkin who sports an impressive 12-0 record, but is taking a big step up in class here.
Finally the main card is rounded out by two more promising stars in Tyron Woodley and Tarec Saffiedine who’ll square off against Jordan Mein and Tyler Stinson respectively.
