The UFC return to Montreal, Canada on Saturday, May 8th with an eagerly anticipated light-heavyweight title re-match headlining the UFC 113 show.
Of course that is the showdown between Brazilian fighters Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua. The original bout ended in controversy when Machida earned the decision victory, despite the vast majority of those in attendance and watching at home believing that Rua had done enough to claim the belt.
Now they get a second chance to prove who is the better fighter, and it should be another fascinating chess-match battle, and potentially one of the stand-out fights of 2010.
A welterweight fight with possible title shot implications between Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley is also lined up for UFC 113.
Daley has made an immediate impact since joining the UFC, with two early stoppages by strikes quickly propelling him to the upper reaches of the division. Koscheck defeated another dangerous striker in Anthony Johnson in his last fight however, and a win could make the favorite to face the winner of the GSP Vs Dan Hardy bout at UFC 111.
Before that Sam Stout is back in action after impressing in his last fight with Joe Lauzon. Now he takes on Jeremy Stephens in what should be a high-octane stand-up war that could seize ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors.
Kimbo Slice also returns at UFC 113 to take on fellow TUF 10 fighter Matt Mitrione after the two emerged with a win at the season finale in December. Both men rely heavy on their boxing skills so expect this one to turn into a stand-up slug-fest that’s unlikely to go the distance.
Meanwhile Patrick Cote will finally make his return to action having been out since sustaining an injury in his title fight with Anderson Silva back in October of ’08. Standing in the way of a successful comeback is Alan Belcher who has picked up two ‘Fight Of The Night’ and one ‘Submission Of The Night’ award in his last three fights.
The undercard for UFC 113 is also currently being filled up with some interesting match-ups, including the return of the entertaining Tom Lawlor, who put on a strong showing against Aaron Simpson recently, against Tim Credeur .
Marcus Davis also features, in a fight against Jonathon Goulet – a fight Davis will be under pressure to win after suffering back-to-back losses in 2009.
The undercard is so far rounded out by Yoshiyuki Yoshida Vs Mike Guymon, and TJ Grant Vs Johny Hendericks, though further bouts are expected to be announced in due course.
Check back for the latest updates to the fight card as and when they happen in the lead-up to the event.
