The fight card for October 23rd’s UFC 121: Lesnar Vs Velasquez event in Anaheim, California has now been officially announced.

Topping the bill at the show is the sports top draw, heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar who will face a serious challenge against the well-rounded Cain Velasquez who brings with him an unbeaten professional record including five wins inside the octagon.

Lesnar showed heart and a ‘never say die’ attitude in his last fight with Shane Carwin, but he also showed he’s vulnerable on his feet, and Velasquez can trouble him with his ever-improving striking, and he has the wrestling credentials to test Lesnar in that regard as well.

UFC 121 also features the debut of former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields who will put his remarkable five year, 14 fight unbeaten run on the line against Martin Kampmann who’s fought his way back into contention at 170lbs with wins over Jacob Volkmann and Paulo Thiago in 2010.

The aforementioned Paulo Thiago will himself be looking to get back into the mix at 170lbs when he takes on Diego Sanchez who has similar motivations after being humbled by both BJ Penn and John Hathaway in his past two trips to the octagon.

After successful neck surgery former UFC light-heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz returns to the cage once again hoping to prove he still has what it takes to be a force at 205lbs.  To do so he’ll have to get past his former protege from TUF season 3, Matt Hamill who, on paper at least, is on a four fight unbeaten run, though the truth is that he was well beaten against Jon Jones before an illegal elbow gave him the win on a technicality.

The final bout on the main card is an intriguing contest between one of the new emerging stars at heavyweight, TUF season 10 finalist Brendan Schaub, and experienced campaigner Gabriel Gonzaga.
