The UFC head back to Germany on November 13th for UFC 122: Marquardt Vs Okami and the full fight card for the event, which will air for free on Spike TV, has now been revealed.
With Chael Sonnen now out of the title picture due to his PED suspension, UFC 122’s main event between Nate Marquardt and Yushin Okami takes on added significance, with the winner guaranteed a shot at the 185lb strap in 2011.
A loss to the aforementioned Sonnen is the only black mark on Marqurdt’s record recently, with impressive wins over Martin Kampmann, Wilson Gouveia, Demian Maia and Rousimer Palhares in-between times confirming him as one of the division’s top talents.
Ironically Sonnen also handed Okami his last loss, but with an octagon record of 9-2 and also holding the claim to fame of being the last man to defeat current champion Anderson Silva, there’s no doubt that the Japanese fighter will have earned his title shot if he can navigate past Marquardt.
Fresh off a three-fight winning streak Jorge Rivera returns to action in Germany against the Italian Alessio Sakara, who’s also not tasted defeat in his last three encounters. With both men favoring their fists this has all the makings of a stand-up war.
Continuing the European flavor of the main card Poland’s Krzysztof Soszynski will move on from two bloody battles with Stephan Bonnar to face a new challenge in the shape of Croatian middleweight Goran Reljic. With both men 1-2 in their last three visits to the octagon this will be seen as a do or die bout by both fighters.
Meanwhile Germany’s Dennis Siver will have the hometown advantage when he steps into the cage with the UK’s Andre Winner in what should be another exciting stand-up battle.
Finally the main card is rounded off by TUF season 7 winner Amir Sadollah who will be looking to get back to winning ways when he takes on another German national Peter Sobotta who desperately needs a win after losing his first two fights in the promotion.
