The UFC returns to their happy hunting ground of Canada for UFC 131 which takes place on June 11th at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

After a stint coaching the current season of The Ultimate Fighter, Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos were set to headline the event, but a recurrence of his Diverticulitis illness means that Lesnar had to pull out, and Shane Carwin now steps in to fight JDS with the winner set to take on current heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez later in the year.

TUF Season 6 winner Mac Danzig’s form has been patchy to say the least in the lightweight division recently, going 2-3 in the last three years, and it won’t be easy to improve upon that with former WEC star Donald Cerrone standing across the cage from him at UFC 131.

In an interesting clash of styles, Highly regarded BJJ proponent Demian Maia has been paired up with wrestling and ground and pound expert Mark Munoz, with both men currently riding back-to-back wins and hoping to take a step closer to the top contenders at 185lbs.

Long-time lightweight competitor Kenny Florian’s debuts at featherweight at UFC 131, and he’s been thrown straight in against a tough opponent in Diego Nunes who’s lost just once in 17 pro-fights.  A win for Florian is expected to pave the way for a title shot at 145lbs, but Nunes will have other plans.

The debuting Jon Olav Einemo was expected to face Shane Carwin at this event, but after a card shuffle the BJJ expert is now set to face Joey Beltran instead.
