The UFC returns to it’s home in Las Vegas on July 2nd for UFC 132, and for the first time ever the show will be headlined by a title fight in one of the two new weight-classes introduced at the turn of the year – bantamweight (135lbs).
The fight sees former WEC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz making his debut by defending his new UFC strap against Urijah Faber, the only man to defeat him in his 18 fight career back in 2007 when they were both competing at featherweight.
On co-main event duties is a match made in heaven for fans of toe-to-toe wars as the two foremost proponents of that style, Wanderlei Silva and Chris Leben battle it out in what’s likely to end with either a ‘Fight Of The Night’ or ‘Knockout Of The Night’ award.
Lightweight’s Dennis Siver and Matt Wiman are currently on a three fight winning streak in the UFC, which makes them a logical pairing in a fight that could establish yet another meaningful contender in the stacked 155lb weight class.
Meanwhile Ryan Bader and Tito Ortiz will have completely opposite ambitions when they meet in Las Vegas. For Bader a win will be seen as a means to propel him straight back into the mix in the upper end of the division, while for Ortiz this is very much a fight about survival, knowing that a loss will bring an end to his run in the promotion that made him famous.
Finally the main card is rounded out with two welterweight fighters on the rise, former WEC champ Carlos Condit and undefeated Japanese fighter Dong Hyun Kim, and with the welterweight division being low on new challengers for current title holder GSP, a win here could be big for either of these two.
Moving down to the preliminary card the quality is kept high throughout, but the debut of former Strikeforce star Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller against Aaron Simpson is particularly noteworthy.
