This weekend the UFC get their 2012 schedule underway in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil with UFC 142, the first in a string of events throughout the rest of January.

Fronting the show will be featherweight champion Jose Aldo who’ll get the opportunity to attempt to defend his title in front of his home fans against Team Alpha Male product Chad Mendes who will look to take home the gold and remain undefeated in twelve pro-fights.

Co-main event duties falls to an intriguing middleweight pairing as former No.1 contender Vitor Belfort attempts to take another step back to the belt against Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson who’s finally made the decision to step up to this more natural weight class after terrorizing the 170lb division for a number of years.

Meanwhile, Mike Massenzio will be hoping to make it back out of Brazil with his limbs still intact when he takes on beastly Brazilian submission specialist Rousimar Palhares.

Erik Silva made his his UFC debut in Rio last year, and after winning that bout by TKO in just 40 seconds he’ll be aiming for something similar against veteran campaigner and fellow Brazilian Carlo Prater who finally makes it to the UFC after 40 fights.

Finally, the main card is rounded off with a tasty looking lightweight encounter between talented striker Edson Barboza and the respected UK fighter Terry Etim who’ll be looking for the fifth ‘Submission Of The Night’ bonus of his UFC career.
