The big events just keep coming with UFC 143 this Saturday night, February 4th slap bang in the middle of Superbowl weekend being the next on deck with one of the most eagerly anticipated fights of the year so far.
That is of course the interm welterweight title bout between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit which has got the full treatment from the UFC with an excellent three part ‘Primetime’ special in the build-up to the fight perfectly setting the scene. The winner of this bout is rumored to be fighting Georges St.Pierre for the ‘real’ belt in the summer so there’s a lot on the line here.
Co-main event honors goes to a heavyweight showdown which sees former Strikeforce fighter Fabricio Werdum make his return to the UFC to take on Roy Nelson.
Also on the main card is another welterweight bout between former No.1 contender Josh Koscheck and Mike Pierce who gets a step up in competition after winning four of his last five UFC fights.
Bantamweight fireworks should be assured when two of the division’s best, Scott Jorgensen and Renan Barao lock horns. Barao is riding a remarkable 27 fight unbeaten streak, albeit with most of those victories coming in his native Brazil. His last four wins have all came against good opposition in the WEC and UFC however so he could be en-route to a title shot with a win here.
Finally the main card is rounded off with middleweight action as a resurgent Ed Herman looks to build on his two fight winning streak against Clifford Starks who earned a win in his UFC debut back in October.
