UFC 147: Fight Card

The second of two UFC events this week takes place on Saturday night as the organization heads to Brazil for UFC 147. Unfortunately this card has been hit hard by injuries, with more coming even as recently as earlier today. With that in mind, let’s see what we’re left with.

Fronting the card is now a rematch of a UFC 99 encounter between Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva. That one was fought at a catchweight of 195lbs with Franklin emerging the victor by unanimous decision and now Silva, fresh of a stint as a coach on TUF: Brazil, will seek revenge, this time at 190lbs.

The regular season of TUF: Brazil ended last night with Daniel Sarafian and Cezar Mutante emerging as the middleweight finalists who were set to fight in the final to decide who becomes the next ‘Ultimate Fighter’.

Unfortunately, Sarafian has had to pull out due to an arm injury, so now beaten semi-finalist Sergio Moraes gets a second chance and will take on Mutante instead.

The card also features the TUF: Brazil featherweight final which sees Roy Mariano Bezerra taking on Godofredo Pepey.

Meanwhile, heavyweight star Fabricio Werdum will fulfill his wish to fight in Brazil on Saturday night when he squares off with Mike Russow.

Finally, Hacran Dias, who originally applied to be on TUF: Brazil but was fast-tracked straight through to the UFC will make his debut against another talented Brazilian featherweight Yuri Alcantara. With a combined record between them of 47-4-1 it’s going to be fascinating to see who comes out on top in this one.
