WEC 51 takes place on September 30th in Colorado with one of the strongest cards the promotion has put on this year.
The card is headlined by emerging superstar Jose Aldo who is currently riding a 10 fight winning streak. He’ll be looking to defend his featherweight title for a second time when he steps into the cage with ex-UFC fighter Manny Gamburyan who’s revitalized his career after moving down to featherweight and defeated ex-champion Mike Brown last time out.
A long awaited rematch between former lightweight champion Jamie Varner and the always exciting Donald Cerrone is also slated for the WEC 51 event. Varner won their first encounter but it was a controversial fight and Cerrone, who’s form has dipped since the fight, going 2-2 in his last four fights, will be looking to set the record straight while getting back to winning ways.
Another WEC star Miguel Torres will also appear at the event as the former bantamweight champion looks to break a rare case of back-to-back defeats when he takes on Charlie Valencia.
Leonard Garcia, who took part in one of the promotion’s most memorable fights against ‘The Korean Zombie’ last time out, could well be in for another ‘Fight Of The Night’ performance when he throws down with Mark Hominick who also loves to stand and bang.
Speaking of The Korean Zombie, Chan Sung Jung does also features on the card, going up against ex-UFC fighter George Roop who’s been struggling to find his feet in the WEC with a record of 0-1-1 so far.
