Earlier I indicated that the UFC On FOX 3 main card may have been set with the earlier announcement of Josh Koscheck Vs Johny Hendricks, but it appears I may have spoken a little too soon as Dana White has also just confirmed Alan Belcher Vs Rousimar Palhares for the event.
This sounds like a great bit of matchmaking from the UFC and is surely going to get a prominent spot on the televised portion of the FOX show.
With other big fights like the aforementioned Koscheck Vs Hendricks plus the main event between Nate Diaz and Jim Miller along with Pat Barry Vs Lavar Johnson it could be that we’re heading for the first four-fight showcase on the channel, and while you can never give any guarantee’s this sounds like the kind of line-up that will provide the thrills and spills that the previous show missed out on.
Both Belcher and Palhares are currently prominent players in the UFC’s middleweight division. Belcher’s rise up the rankings has been stunted somewhat by a lengthy layoff due to a career-threatening eye injury, but he bounced back strongly in September with a quick victory over Jason MacDonald that leaves him on a three-fight winning streak.
Meanwhile, Palhares is becoming one of the most talked about fighters in the 185lb class due to his virtually unparalleled ability to catch fighters in the nastiest of submission holds on a regular basis. Currently also three-fights unbeaten, four of Palhares last five victories have come by some form of leg lock.
After the Anderson Silva Vs Chael Sonnen title fight later this year the middleweight division is going to be in need of some new challengers and the winner of this fight will certainly strengthen their case considerably in that regard if they can emerge with a victory here.
