Alistair Overeem ended 2011 on a high after winning his UFC debut on December 30th against Brock Lesnar to become the heavyweight division’s No.1 contender, but 2012 has started off badly for the former Strikeforce champion as he’s now been charged with misdemeanor battery of a female in Las Vegas.
Overeem is accused of either pushing or shoving a woman in the face during a night out at a Las Vegas casino just days after his victory at UFC 141 which caused her to “stagger back.”
He was not arrested at the time, but has been summoned to court and will have to attend on February 21st. If found guilty the Dutch star could be facing up to six months in jail and a £1,000 fine.
“There are two sides to this story and we intend on vigorously defending this,” Overeem’s attorney David Chesnoff stated. “Alistair maintains his innocence.”
