It’s now been confirmed that Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem will compete at next week’s DREAM 15 event against former UFC champion Ricco Rodriguez.
Rodriguez has been out of the spotlight for some time and his career appeared to be heading for a dead-end after he ballooned to over 300lbs. Last year the fighter got his act together though, getting back in shape and notching up seven straight wins.
Overeem is a considerably tougher opponent than he’s fought in recent years though. The Dutchman himself is unbeaten in nine MMA fights and is riding him on confidence after swiftly disposing of Brett Rogers to defend his Strikeforce belt back in May.
DREAM 15, which takes place on July 10th in Japan, will also feature a light-heavyweight tournament featuring both Gegard Mousasi and Melvin Manhoef. Sadly the originally proposed eight-man tournament has now been reduced to just four however.
