There have been widely circulated rumors that Alistair Overeem took steroids during his two and a half year spell away from fighting outside of the U.S in Japan and his native Holland, but there remains no proof that this is in fact the case.

In a pre-fight drug test carried out at the request of Strikeforce themselves prior to the ‘Heavy Artillery’ event, Overeem tested negative for anabolic steroids and drugs of abuse according to sherdog.com.

The results of a random drug test was also carried out by the Missouri Office Of Athletics are not yet know, and there is no indication at this stage whether Overeem was part of that test or not.

Overeem announced his return to the promotion with an emphatic victory over Brett Rogers to successfully defend his heavyweight title for the first time.

There is now talk of a fight with Fedor Emelianenko being lined up for later this year, and with Overeem now having passed the drug test that fight now becomes one step closer to becoming a reality.
