Alistair Overeem’s ongoing fly-on-the-wall documentary series ‘The Reem’ has long been seen as the gold standard of MMA fighter blogs, and managed to capture a remarkable period in his career over the past couple of years as he dominated the heavyweight ranks outside of the UFC, becoming the champion at three separate organizations – Strikeforce, DREAM and K-1 before finally making a move to the UFC.

Overeem’s career has now taken a darker turn though, failing a drugs test in the build-up to his title shot against Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146 which forced him out of the fight that would have taken place this weekend and eventually lead to him being suspended for nine months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

To their credit the documentary makers haven’t sought to sweep the situation under the carpet in the latest episode which deals both with the initial build-up to the fight with JDS, moving to the U.S to live and train, and all the drama that has unfolded since then.
