It seems that former UFC heavyweight champion and current Strikeforce fighter Andrei Arlovski has had second thoughts about competing in K-1’s 2010 kickboxing grand-prix.
Arlovski was recently announced as one of the participants in the final 16 of the tournament which begins of 2nd October, with Rual Catinas selected as his opponent.
Today however the Belarusian fighter confirmed on twitter that he would no longer be taking part.
“I would like to confirm that I am not participating in the K-1 on October 2nd”
So far no official explanation as to why he decided to withdraw just days before the event, and it’s not yet known who will replace him in the final 16.
Whatever the reason, it’s probably for the best. As I said when he first agreed to fight in the grand-prix, fighting some of the world’s best strikers in their own sport is not the ideal venue for Arlovski to try to turn around his fortunes after a three fight losing streak in MMA.
