In the past 24 hours Kenny Florian has made it clear that he wants to be the man to welcome WEC star Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis to the UFC, but the promotion may have other plans.
The latest indications are that Pettis will fight Clay Guida at either UFC 130 or 131 according to heavy.com.
After a two fight losing streak to end 2009, Guida has since dusted himself off and come back strong with three victories in a row during 2010 to put him back in the running in the 155lb weight class.
The last man to beat him, Florian, feels that he’d be a better fight for Pettis though.
“I think with me, you’re going to get an exciting fight everywhere,” Florian tells MMAFighting. “Clay, you pretty much know just his style, he’s going to try to ground-and-pound and use his wrestling to defeat Pettis. I’m going to do it on the feet, on the ground, all over the octagon at a high level, whatever it takes. It’s going to be an exciting fight everywhere, a little bit more unpredictable.”
It’ll be interesting to see if Florian’s last minute plea could saw the UFC’s mind. According to a twitter post from Pettis posted just a couple of hours ago he’s not signed up to fight anybody just yet.
“Dunno who I’m fighting, but I’ll fight who ever the UFC puts in front of me. I jus hope its a top contender!!!” – Anthony Pettis.
It appears Florian is unsure as well, but if it’s not Pettis he lays down in no uncertain terms what he’s looking for.
“I want a big fight, I want a big opponent, I want a big name, a big event,” Florian says.
