Unbelievably the UFC’s recent injury curse has again struck as Dana White revealed the news that Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is out of his UFC 108 main event fight with Cain Velasquez after contracting a severe staph infection.

Speaking at the UFC 105 post fight press conference he revealed, “He got a staph infection, bad, to the point now it’s in his blood stream, and he’s probably going to have to be hospitalized and intravenuosly given the antibiotics.”

Reacting to the latest in a string of casualties that has decimated the UFC’s winter fight cards White said, “It’s crazy.  In nine years of being in this business, we haven’t had this many injuries in one year.”

White didn’t reveal what there plans would now be for UFC 108 on January 2nd, though he did say that they would still put together a quality card for the fans.

Rashad Evans Vs Thiago Silva is already scheduled for that event and if no suitable alternative can be found it may well end up serving as the main event of the evening.
