In preparation for his fight with Cain Velasquez at UFC 110 Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has undertaken a new training regime with trainer Todd Norman, with some specific goals in mind.
“The big thing he wanted from me initially was to work on his quickness, his speed and agility, and his explosive power, and really become a better athlete,” Norman says in a new video released by Affliction.
It certainly sounds like a good plan. In the past Nogueira has generally relied on his world class submission skills and overall toughness to win fights, but, particularly as he gets older, the 33 year old has noticeably slowed down.
Against the relentless pace and limitless cardio of Cain Velasquez, Nogueira’s new regime will undoubtedly come in very handy, and in the longer term it may help extend the longevity of his career.
We won’t know for sure just how much of a difference his training has had though until he steps into the cage this weekend in Australia.
