Last week we discussed possible opponents for Cain Velasquez after his impressive victory over Ben Rothwell at UFC 104.  One of the more challenging options mentioned was Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and according to reports in Brazil, this match-up may indeed be on the cards.

The news was first broken by Sensei SporTV who cite Nogueira’s manager as the their source.  He claims that the bout will take place at the UFC’s first event of 2010 – UFC 108 on January 2nd.

If confirmed, Nogueira will undoubtedly be Velasquez’s toughest challenge to date.  Though he has so far been able to outwork his opponents, thanks largely to his superior wrestling skills, ‘Big Nog’ will provide far more of a threat than Velasquez has experienced in his previous seven fights.

For Nogueira, defeating the highly touted Velasquez may earn him a title shot against the winner of the upcoming Lesnar Vs Carwin bout.
