We’ve mentioned Ariel Helwani’s ‘MMA Hour’ radio show before as it appeared in our ‘Top 10 Podcasts’ article a while back. It’s fair to say that Ariel has never had quite as bizarre a broadcast as he did earlier this week though.

To be fair it comes as no great surprise when you notice that he had invited the infamous Spencer Pratt onto the show. For the uninitiated Pratt is one of the most absurd and ridiculous people ever to appear on a reality show – in his case, MTV’s “The Hills”.

Anyway, Pratt apparently trains jiu-jitsu and his friends with Strikeforce Challengers competitor Kevin Casey, hence the tenuous reason he was on the show.

Most of what he said, if not all of it, doesn’t really bear repeating, but during his interview he did call out respected trainer Marc Laimon and suggest that Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker was looking to match Pratt up with Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller in a forthcoming fight.

“Holy moly, what have I done – that was the biggest mistake of my life!” was Ariel’s response after the interview ended.

Following on from that Ariel then brought in special guest Alistair Overeem for a full hour, which included a mini birthday celebration since the heavyweight champion has just turned 30. It was a fun interview that showed a lighter side to Overeem’s personality so it’s well worth a watch if you get the chance.
