Bellator 122, the latest in the promotion’s ‘summer season’ of events took place last night and in the main event of the evening Andrey Koreshkov won the welterweight tournament final after earning a clean sweep on the judges scorecards (30-27 x3) against Adam McDonough.
Koreshkov was in complete control from start to finish, mixing up his strikes, including some eye-catching spinning kicks and utilizing good takedown defense when required.
In the co-main event Brandon Halsey became the season 10 middleweight tournament winner in surprisingly swift fashion, taking down Brett Cooper early and securing an armbar finish with just 2.09mins on the clock.
In a summer series 205lb tournament semi-final Liam McGeary also produced a quick stoppage against Egidijus Valavicius, bloodying him up during an early flurry of strikes, then hurting him with an uppercut and following up with a barrage of punches and knees to force the TKO stoppage at 2.10mins of the first round.
Karo Parisyan had started the trend of quick finishes in the main card opener in a battle with fellow UFC veteran Phil Baroni.
Baroni struggled to find his range in the opening exchanges while Parisyan was having no such trouble and backed his opponent up towards the cage. He connected with a nice jab and then as Baroni began to bob and weave he landed an uppercut that staggered Baroni and put him down on one knee. Baroni unsteadily tried to stand, but Parisyan was hammering away at him with repeated left hands which prevented him from doing so, and eventually he slumped cross-legged on the mat as the referee stepped in to save him from any more punishment.
