Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire defeats Pat Curran by unanimous decision (48-47, 49-46 x2)

Bellator has a new featherweight champion tonight after Freire got the better of Curran over the course of five rounds of fighting. Freire got the better of the action on the feet, rocking Curran a number of times. Curran showed a lot of heart to stay in the fight, but it was clear this wasn’t going to be his night.

Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal defeats Dustin Jacoby by TKO at 1.13mins of Rd2

‘King Mo’ got back to winning ways tonight in the Bellator cage with a decisive finish. In the opening round he relied mainly on his wrestling, but in the opening minute of the second he tested his hands against Jocoby and found success, wobbling him with an overhand right. ‘King Mo’ pressed in looking for the finish, but Jacoby bit down on his gumshield and started returning fire. Fists flew, but Jacoby was still on unstable footing and when Lawal connected with more heavy hands he fell to the mat. ‘King Mo’ then got on top and worked some ground and pound until the referee decided Jacoby had had enough, handing Lawal the TKO win.

Tamdan McCrory defeats Brennan Ward by TKO at 0.21mins of Rd1

McCrory is well known for his submission prowess, but tonight in his first fight in five years he showed his hands are now a threat to as he stopped Ward in a matter of moments, with a series of hard, accurate left and right hooks flooring his opponent.

Bobby Lashley defeats Josh Burns by submission (rear-naked choke) at 3.54mins of Rd2

Lashley gets an easy win here with Burns offering up very little resistance. Lashley took him down early in the first and worked for a few submission attempts before settling for ground and pound that left Burns head bleeding by the end of the round. Lashley worked a little stand-up and then another takedown in the second, landing more punches before pouncing on Burns back when he attempted to get up and applied the standing rear-naked choke. His arm had barely tucked under Burns chin when the tap came.

Cheick Kongo def. Lavar Johnson via submission (rear-naked choke) at 3.27mins of Rd1

Johnson pressed Kongo from the opening bell with punches, but the Frenchman wisely took the fight to the mat and worked his way to full mount. Johnson did his best to break free, but Kongo was able to take his back and sink in a rear-naked choke which resulted in a quick tap-out.
