Bellator 138 Results And Recap

Bellator 138 took place last night on Spike TV and we’ve got all the results for you below.

In the main event of the evening Kimbo Slice was able to get the better of Ken Shamrock via a TKO stoppage midway through the first round, though just moments before he had been on the verge of being tapped out.

From the opening bell Shamrock made his gameplan clear as he moved straight into the clinch and looked for a takedown. He did manage to get Kimbo down via a trip, but he got back up immediately.

They clinched again then separated. Shamrock bundled forward with a telgraphed single leg takedown, but Kimbo was caught off-guard by it and hit the deck. Shamrock took his back and began to flatten him out before sinking in a rear-naked choke. Oddly, despite appearing to be comfortably in control from this position Shamrock never properly cinched up the submission and that lapse in technique proved to be his fatal flaw as Kimbo gritted his teeth against the submission and then broke free.

Shamrock almost immediately paid the price as Kimbo clocked him with a right hand as he stood up. Shamrock appeared a little dazed as a few more right hands came his way, before one landed hard to his jaw line, sending him staggering back just for a moment before falling to the mat, bringing an end to the fight.

Earlier, Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire successfully defended his featherweight title after he knocked out Daniel Weichel early in the second round.

However, Friere came very close to losing his grip on the belt in the final seconds of the first round as Weichel connected with a big right hand then unleashed a flurry of strikes as the champion backed up to the cage. Wiechel landed a big knee and Friere’s legs buckled, but as he sunk to the mat under fire the bell sounded and the ref stepped in to stop them immediately. It happened so fast Wiechel thought the fight was over, but despite his protests that wasn’t the case.

Friere answered the bell for the second round and found himself in danger again as Weichel hemmed in on him looking to put him away, but ‘Pitbull’ suddenly launched a left hook counter that connected cleanly and knocked his opponent out for the huge comeback win.

Earlier in the evening Bobby Lashley picked up a TKO win over late replacement Dan Charles, wearing him down with takedowns and his strength on top. It took him a while to get the finish though, with the ref eventually having seen enough late in the second round as Lashley peppered Charles with somewhat labored looking punches.

Wrapping up the fights on the main card, Daniel Straus forced a second round guillotine choke stoppage against Henry Corrales, while Michael Chandler picked up a much needed win with a rear-naked choke submission early in the opening round against Derek Campos.
