Former Strikeforce fighter Jay Hieron’s decision to sign for Bellator paid off last night when he became the season four welterweight tournament winner following a three round battle with Rick Hawn.

It was an extremely close fight, and could have gone either way, but Heiron sneaked out a split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29), and is now looking forward to a fight with current Bellator 170lb champ Ben Askren.

Elsewhere another recently released Strikeforce fighter Joe ‘Diesel’ Riggs didn’t fare so well, losing by second round TKO to Bryan Baker, while Chase Beebe and Ron Sparks also picked up victories on the main card.
