Last night saw the culmination of Bellator’s ‘Summer Series’ of events with ‘Bellator 48’ which saw the culmination of the promotion’s latest featherweight tournament.

In the fight Marlon Sandro looked to be edging the fight until late in the second round when he weaved straight into a head kick from Pat Curran. That sent him pole-axed to the canvas and handed Curran a spectacular highlight reel KO, the 145lb title and a $100,000 cheque.

Bellator’s heavyweight champion Cole Konrad did little to shed his ‘boring’ tag despite abandoning his wrestling game to strike with Paul Buentello.

This was a fight that was extremely light on action, but what little of it there was came mostly from the champion with Buentello seeming hesitant to engage – perhaps overly concerned with not getting taken down.

As a result Konrad picked up the unanimous decision win to a chorus of boos.

In the card’s other major fight Seth Petruzelli brought an end to Ricco Rodriguez 12 fight winning streak in under a round of action after force-feeding him a diet of kicks and punches before dropping him with a clean right hand and finishing up with ground and pound.
