Bellator have enjoyed a relatively solid spell in terms of their TV ratings on MTV2 recently, but unfortunately Saturday night’s Bellator 50 event couldn’t continue to the trend.

An average of just 114,000 viewers tuned into Saturday night’s show which featured the opening round of their latest middleweight tournament.

That’s 121,000 down on the previous week and qualifies as the worst ratings to date for the promotion on MTV2, with the previous low point coming back at Bellator 41 when they drew 132,000.

While disappointing it’s easy to see why the ratings dip occured given that they were going up against both UFC Fight Night 25 on Spike TV and the Mayweather Vs Ortiz pay-per-view – one of the biggest boxing events of the year.

So the hope is that this was just a temporary blip and they can get back on track next weekend with Bellator 51 in which will feature the opening round of the bantamweight tournament.
