Bellator enjoyed an excellent night of fights on Saturday as their bantamweight tournament kicked off with some upsets and spectacular knockouts.

Unfortunately it proved not to be one of their better shows in terms of the TV ratings, with just 158,000 tuning into MTV2 for the live broadcast.

That’s up 44,000 from the previous Saturday’s event, but still pegs it at fourth bottom on the overall audience rankings since Bellator first began broadcasting on the station.

As with Bellator 50 there are reasons for the poor ratings however, as once again they faced stiff opposition from rival promotions in one of the busiest weekend’s of live MMA action for some months.

It began on Friday night with Titan FC 20 and Strikeforce Challengers 19 followed by DREAM 17, then on the Saturday night they went head to head with UFC 135.

There’s no respite for Bellator however as next weekend they’ll go up against UFC On Versus 6.
