Bellator 56: Quick Results

It’s been a big week for Bellator, with the promotion announcing mid-week that Viacom had bought a majority stake in the company, and they capped it off last night on MTV2 last night with their Bellator 56 event which featured a title fight and the semi-finals of their season 5 heavyweight tournament.

In the main event welterweight champion Ben Askren defended his title, but he certainly didn’t have it all his own way against Jay Heiron and had to settle for a split decision victory and count his blessings that it didn’t go the other way.

Meanwhile the heavyweight semi’s were sorted out in short order with Thiago Santos submitting Neil Grove in 38 seconds, while Eric Prindle KO’d Ron Sparks in 40 seconds.
