Bellator kicked off their summer season last night with the quarter-finals of their latest heavyweight tournament front-loading the card.
Veteran performer Travis Wiuff booked his place in the semi-finals by finishing Chris Davis by TKO late in the opening round with ground and pound.
Attila Vegh also made it to the next round after dropping Zelg Galesic early and then securing a rear-naked choke submission.
In other non-tournament heavyweight action Brett Rogers marked his Bellator debut with a win over Kevin Asplund, his first in over a year. He controlled the action on top in the first round, but was taken down himself in the second. He eventually got back to a dominant position though and smashed Asplund with ground and pound that left him with a badly swollen left eye. The doctor took a close look at that eye in-between rounds and ruled that he couldn’t continue, handing Rogers the victory.
The main card was rounded out by two light-heavyweight tournament bouts with Tim Carpenter and Emmanuel Newton both claiming second round submission victories to claim their semi-final spots.
