Bellator 96: Quick Results

Bellator kicked off their summer series last night on Spike TV and delivered a main card full of definitive finishes.

In the main event Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal shrugged off his previous loss with a 95 second knockout victory over Seth Petruzelli. After taking him down ‘King Mo’ stood over him, swept his legs to one side and dropped down with a single, heavy, perfectly placed punch that switched out Petruzzeli’s lights.

In the co-main event MMA veteran Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral slumped to another defeat after being soundly beaten up by Jacob Noe for the best part of three rounds. After being caught with some hard shots in the final round ‘Babalu’ was on wobbly legs and the referee stepped in to save him from further punishment.

Afterwards, the 37 year-old announced his retirement from the sport, bringing a 16 year, 37-11 career to a close.

Noe will now move on to face ‘King Mo’ in the summer series tournament final.

Meanwhile, in the heavyweight tournament semi’s, Vitaly Minakov flattened Ron Sparks with a big left hand to help seal a 32 second TKO victory, while Ryan Martinez booked his place in the final with a similarly heavy-handed approach, taking out Richard Hale in the first round with some big ground and pound.

Finally, ‘War Machine’ had a successful start to his Bellator career, earning a first round TKO stoppage against Blas Avena.
