Bellator Fighter Joe Vedepo Arrested After Police Altercation

Bellator light-heavyweight fighter Joe Vedepo was arrested this past Friday afternoon in Iowa City after a drunken scuffle with police outside a bar.

police were first called to the Sports Column bar in the early afternoon after staff reported that the 31 year-old Vedepo was drunk and refusing to leave.

When the police arrived Vedepo was brought outside, but then disobeyed their orders by going back into the bar. At that stage an altercation ensued with Vedepo being alleged to have headbutted an officer in the chest which knocked him over resulting in a back injury that required hospital treatment.

While they were then able to get Vedepo to the ground he continued to resist arrest even when he was tasered. Several officers were finally able to get cuffs on the fighter, though while transferring him from one police vehicle to another he again lashed out by kicking at them.

Eventually Vedepo was transfered to the Johnson County Iowa Jail where he was found to be three times over the legal limit for alcohol and currently remains behind bars on a $10,000 bail.

Vedepo, who’s been with Bellator since 2012 and also had a brief stint in the UFC earlier in his career, fought Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal on the main card of Bellator 131 just a few weeks ago, losing by third round TKO.

That broke his three-fight winning streak in the promotion and left him with a career record of 17-9.
